With just a few more days left before the big night when Aire Stáit Seán Kyne TD sa Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta, Gnóthaí Réigiúnacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta will announce the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh category winners and the overall winner for 2017. Twelve Galway businesses on the Gradam Gearrliosta, are very busy preparing for the special awards ceremony taking place next Monday the 15th of May at 6.30pm in the Salthill Hotel.  This event has become an important feature in the Galway calendar and this year, it will mark the pinnacle of Gaillimh le Gaeilge’s celebrations of 30 years in business.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge has organised Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, for the past 15 years in association with the Galway Advertiser and with support from the Galway Chamber, which celebrates the outstanding efforts of the business community in Galway that use the language in their business.

Bríd Ní Chonghóile of Gaillimh le Gaeilge said; “Bíonn muid ag tnúth go mór leis an ócáid seo chuile bhliain mar go dtugann sí deis dúinn an obair mhór dhátheangach atá déanta ag gnólachtaí agus ag eagraíochtaí na cathrach a thaispeáint agus a cheiliúradh. It’s great to see the diversity of businesses that take part as well as the enthusiasm and positive energy that they all bring to the process of creating a bilingual business. It certainly provides a great incentive for Foireann Ghaillimh le Gaeilge to continue to strengthen the Irish language in Ireland’s Bilingual City and further enhance Galway’s status as European Capital of Culture in 2020.”

Speaking at the announcement of the Gradam Gearrliosta, Declan Varley, Group Editor of the Galway Advertiser said that:

“By highlighting the magic of the Irish language, they have made Galway different. The Galway Advertiser are delighted to support the Gradam because it fits in with our way of thinking.

Every business who takes part in the Gradam is doing their bit to keep Galway unique and for that we applaud you and wish you the best of luck.”

This year’s Gearrliosta features a wide variety of businesses from a Poitín Distiller to a Co-working space who all have one thing in common – they have embraced bilingualism into their business! The Gradam Gearrliosta will have an opportunity to showcase and celebrate all of their bilingual endeavours to a host of guests, family and friends as well as business colleagues on the night.

The winners will remain a closely guarded secret until Monday evening when the announcements will be made!
