You are greeted when entering and exiting our premises and also when locating us on our website. With every change we make, we endeavour to incorporate the Irish language.

Proprietor Caroline McCarthy and her team are all Irish speakers and provide bilingual signage throughout the store as well as incorporating the Irish language into social media, advertising and on the store’s website.

Ba mhór an onóir dúinn ‘Bronnadh Speisialta na Moltóirí’ a bhaint amach i nGradam 2017. We were delighted to recieve the recognition for our bilingual efforts last year. It encouraged us to keep going! Mary’s staff welcome customers in English or Irish, all signage is bilingual and a spectacular display of fresh fish each day are named in Irish and in English.

This year 56 Central introduced the Irish language throughout the restaurant. With the manager of the restaurant Rowena, being a fluent Irish speaker, once appearing on TG4, the language has a place in the hearts of the 56 Central Crew. They even have their own tag line, #ourhappyplace, translated to #ÁitAntSonais.
Galway Food Tours
Having spent over 15 years in the food industry, Sheena Dignam’s passion has led her to launch Galway Food Tours. On each tour, we greet & welcome our guests in Irish. Our website and social media are in Irish. We are also running a series of food tours solely in Irish involving local shops, bakeries, distilleries and restaurants.

At the Harbour Hotel, we are bold and proud of our use of Gaeilge throughout the hotel. “Gaillimh Abú” is lit up brightly over the hotel reception. Dillisk on the Docks promotes Gaeilge in its menus and once again the emphasis is on promoting Gaeilge to let our guest know they are in this vibrant region of cultúr.

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children
Baboró is Ireland’s flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and families, hosting a week-long festival in Galway each October. Baboró will feature more Irish in its marketing material, social media and public announcements, identify Irish-speaking staff and equip all staff with basic Irish phrases during staff training in order to better support the Irish language.
