        "rendered": "<p><strong><em>Celebrating the Irish Language and Galway as a Bilingual City on St Brigid\u2019s Weekend<\/em><\/strong>. \ud83c\udf0a<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Tonnta &#8211; Galway\u2019s newest festival, celebrating the Irish language and Galway as a bilingual city will run from February 1st to 4th.\u00a0 What\u2019s it about?\u00a0 Given the weekend that\u2019s in it there are a number of themes, but the primary one is to celebrate Galway\u2019s status as a bilingual city.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Bilingualism!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the weekend and particularly at the <strong>free C\u00e9il\u00ed M\u00f3r<\/strong> and <strong>fire shows in Eyre Square<\/strong> and at the <strong>workshops, cartoon exhibitions and family events in the PorterShed,<\/strong> there will be opportunities to (re) awaken your interest in the Irish language by speaking with helpful and empathetic language ambassadors who will chat to you at whatever level of Gaeilge you are comfortable with.\u00a0 That word you\u2019re looking for will be right above you on the overhead bunting as you stroll through the Latin Quarter &#8211; just reach up and grab it and use it!\u00a0 Many workshops and events will be bilingual including the <strong>Food and Whiskey Tours<\/strong> with Galway Food Tours, the <strong>Dirty Circus<\/strong> in An Taibhdhearc, <strong>Story Time <\/strong>in conjunction with the <strong>Moth and Butterfly Festival<\/strong> in the City Library.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tonnta is also about Mn\u00e1some Women!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On St Brigid\u2019s Day and indeed all weekend, we celebrate women and Tonnta is delighted to bring you a live presentation of the <strong>Beo ar \u00c9igean<\/strong> podcast, the <strong>Mn\u00e1some Geeze <\/strong>comedy performance in the R\u00f3is\u00edn Dubh and <strong>Seisi\u00fan Ceol na mBan<\/strong> at the Crane.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Language and Culture go hand in hand.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The programme also celebrates the Culture of the Gaeltacht and who better to embody that than <strong>Altan<\/strong>, in the <strong>Town Hall Theatre on<\/strong> <strong>Friday 2nd<\/strong>; <strong>Liam O\u2019Maonla\u00ed, as well as Mair\u00e9ad N\u00ed Fhlatharta<\/strong>, accompanied by musician Erin Nic Eoghain (An Spid\u00e9al, Co na Gaillimhe) in <strong>An Taibhdhearc on Saturday 3rd; \u00a0Pastime Chonamara <\/strong>and <strong>Ceolt\u00f3ir\u00ed \u00d3ga Chois Fharraige <\/strong>in the <strong>Eyre Square Centre, <\/strong>also on <strong>Saturday at noon<\/strong> and the <strong>Trad Rave in the R\u00f3is\u00edn Dubh on February 1st. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Free<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A big part of the Tonnta Festival programme is free including <strong>talks, workshops,<\/strong> the Irish Language <strong>Cartoon Exhibition<\/strong> presented by the <strong>Galway Cartoon Festival<\/strong> and <strong>L\u00e1 na bP\u00e1ist\u00ed <\/strong>all taking place in the <strong>PorterShed a D\u00f3<\/strong>, Market Street, on Saturday and Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also on Saturday 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, Tonnta takes over Eyre Square with a free <strong>C\u00e9il\u00ed M\u00f3r<\/strong> (2pm) and two <strong>fire shows<\/strong> presented by the renowned <strong>Rogu<\/strong> at 5.15pm and at 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>Gaillimh le Gaeilge, which works to enhance the visibility and audibility of the Irish language in Gaillimh | Galway, has planned the new festival and is co-funded by Galway City Council, F\u00e1ilte Ireland, Plean Teanga Chathair na Gaillimhe, Galway Culture Company and Gaillimh le Gaeilge.\u00a0 As part of the designation of Galway as a city of culture and as an official bilingual city, a partnership is also being formed with the Galway Culture Company.<\/p>\n<p>Br\u00edd N\u00ed Chongh\u00f3ile, CEO Gaillimh le Gaeilge, is looking forward to an exciting weekend:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>T\u00e1 muid ag tn\u00fath go m\u00f3r leis an bhF\u00e9ile Tonnta chun an d\u00e1theangachas a cheili\u00faradh i gCathair na Gaillimhe.
