It was an impressive first year for Gaillimh le Gaeilge with over 30 businesses participating, six of which were based in Woodquay alone. Check out Gaillimh le Gaeilge social media platform to view the impressive list.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Projects Officer for Gaillimh le Gaeilge and organiser of the Christmas competition, Grace N\u00ed Chonghaile, says:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u201c<\/strong><em>Choosing just one winner among the amazing displays, creative ideas, and festivity in every window was not easy. There was, however, one prize to give away, which went to Tig\u00edn &#8211; comhghairdeas leo!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tig\u00edn receives a \u20ac250 voucher sponsored by Snap Galway, to use on future signage work for their business. Their front window was not the only section of their house decorated with Irish phrases, but their inside mirrors and windows also had several other creative Irish phrases decorating them. Congratulations also to the artist, Owen Durkan. Check out photos of the winning Christmas artwork on our social media, or pop into Tig\u00edn the festive season to take a look!<\/p>\n<p>Gaillimh le Gaeilge\u2019s mission is clear: Progressing Gaillimh | Galway as a bilingual city by facilitating, encouraging, and welcoming the use of Irish by all.<\/p>\n<p>The bilingual organisation works hand-in-hand with local businesses to strengthen Galway\u2019s status as a bilingual city. \u00a0\u00a0This new festive initiative encourages businesses to incorporate the Irish language into their Christmas windows, fostering a sense of place and identity that is uniquely Galwegian.<\/p>\n<p>From festive phrases like <em>\u201cNollaig Shona\u201d and \u201cAthbhliain Faoi Mhaise Daoibh\u201d<\/em>, to bringing a touch of wit and humour into the artwork, with <em>\u2018Saint\u00ed Link\u2019<\/em> and \u2018<em>Lig do Ski\u2019,<\/em> to spreading goodwill and positivity, with greetings such as<em>\u201cS\u00edoch\u00e1in, Gr\u00e1 agus Sonas. <\/em>With every display, the season&#8217;s magic is brought to life in a bilingual way.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Gaillimh le Gaeilge, Br\u00edd N\u00ed Chongh\u00f3ile, congratulated the winners and said:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201c <em>Comhghairdeas le Tig\u00edn agus m\u00edle bu\u00edochas do gach duine a ghlac p\u00e1irt sa chom\u00f3rtas i mbliana. It was wonderful seeing businesses from all corners of the city participate in the campaign to make Galway a Nollaig Shona this Christmas from the Headford Road to the Westend, to the Latin Quarter, into Woodquay, and finally, to Salthill and Knocknacarra. Beidh muid ar ais ar\u00eds an bhliain seo chugainn le N\u00cdOS M\u00d3 duaiseanna toisc gur com\u00f3rtas teann a bh\u00ed ann i mbliana.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A special thanks is extended by Gaillimh le Gaeilge to <em>Galway City Tidy Towns<\/em> for their support and to <em>Snap Galway<\/em> for sponsoring the prize.
