        "rendered": "<p>One of the largest hotels in the west of Ireland, The Connacht Hotel, was named as the overall winner of Galway\u2019s bilingual business award &#8211; Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh. Aire St\u00e1it Se\u00e1n Kyne TD do Ghn\u00f3tha\u00ed Pobail, Acmhainn\u00ed N\u00e1d\u00fartha agus Forbairt Dhigiteach made the annoucement at a special awards ceremony attended by over 100 guests in the Salthill Hotel on Thursday the 24th of May 2018. The award ceremony applauds the outstanding efforts of the business community promoting \u2018An Ghaeilge\u2019 in \u00a0Ireland\u2019s Bilingual City and European Capital of Culture 2020.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Connacht Hotel was named as the winner of the \u2018Tourism &amp; Hospitality\u2019 Category sponsored by <strong>F\u00e1ilte Ireland<\/strong> and they went on to <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gaillimhlegaei.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LydonImages_79-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4942\" \/>scoop the overall award on the night.\u00a0The Conancht Hotel first entered the Gradam in 2016 and their consistent use of the language has been reflected in them winning their category for the past two year. \u00a0The Irish language is proudly displayed on their signage, menus, marketing material, in-room information and they have several members of staff who can provide a \u2018Seirbh\u00eds tr\u00ed Ghaeilge\u2019. Over the past year, the Irish language has become an important part of their digital marketing strategy and they have introduced the hashtag &#8211; #AgFanachtsaConnacht as well as incorporating Irish into many of their promotional videos and social media activity. They have also influenced the other businesses in the Connacht Hospitality Group to use Irish too.<\/p>\n<p>The other category winners for Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh 2018 were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kennys Bookshop &amp; Art Galleries Ltd. <\/strong>winner of the \u2018Retail\u2019 Category, sponsored by <strong>Galway Bay FM<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sweeney Oil <\/strong>winner of the \u2018Services\u2019 Category, sponsored by<strong> Snap Galway<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gaillimhlegaei.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LydonImages_76-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4943 alignleft\" \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>i<\/em><\/strong><strong>Supply,<\/strong> winner of the \u2018Other Companies\u2019 Category sponsored by <strong>Acadamh na hOllscola\u00edochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na h\u00c9ireann Gaillimh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the molt\u00f3ir\u00ed, Freda Nic Giolla Chath\u00e1in, CEO Gn\u00f3 Mhaigh Eo said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChuaigh gach uile ghn\u00f3lacht i bhfeidhm go m\u00f3r orainn &#8211; t\u00e1 obair iontach ar si\u00fal acu go l\u00e9ir chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ina ngn\u00f3. We really felt that these business people are proud of the Irish language and of the official bilingual status of Galway. They are all ensuring that the language will play a central role in their plans for Gaillimh 2020.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that they recognise the value of \u2018An Ghaeilge\u2019 as a marketing tool and that they see the benefits in increasing the visibility of the language and also providing an Irish language service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Gradam Award,\u00a0 Se\u00e1n Kyne TD, Aire St\u00e1it do Ghn\u00f3tha\u00ed Pobail, Acmhainn\u00ed N\u00e1d\u00fartha agus Forbairt Dhigiteach said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTr\u00e9asla\u00edm go speisialta leis na gn\u00f3lachta\u00ed agus leis na heagra\u00edochta\u00ed fuinni\u00fala at\u00e1 anseo tr\u00e1thn\u00f3na. You all have a very positive outlook towards the use of the Irish language and it\u2019s great to see how you\u2019ve integrated it so effortlessly into your day-to-day business. Molaim sibh as an gcur chuige seo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9ara Chathair na Gaillimhe, Cllr. Pearce Flannery congruatlated all of the Gradam winners. He went on to say:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I can see here this evening, there is a tremendous amount of work and time invested by you in the Irish language. This helps <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gaillimhlegaei.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LydonImages_47-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4944\" \/>to further promote and maintain the Irish language so that it continues to add value \u00a0not only to your \u00a0own businesses ororganisations but \u00a0also to our reputation as a bilingual cultural city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President of Galway Chamber, David Hickey, also spoke at the event and said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking the commitment to promote and use more Irish in your business is not easy. The Gradam has evolved and grown over the years and is now one of Gaillimh le Gaeilge\u2019s most important projects in the promotion of the Irish language in Galway city.\u00a0 It\u2019s great to see that the influence of \u2018an Ghaeilge\u2019 through the various businesses taking part, is far reaching and is having a positive impact on our status as a Bilingual city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gaillimhlegaei.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LydonImages_46-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4946 alignleft\" \/>A reflection of the high standard of entries this year is <strong>Bronnadh Speisialta na Molt\u00f3ir\u00ed<\/strong>, a special award designed to acknowledge a businesses who has entered the Gradam for the first time and has achieved a very high standard which could not go unrecognised. This year, two businesses were chosen for this award.\u00a0Bronnadh Speisialta na Molt\u00f3ir\u00ed, sponsored by <strong>Judy Greene Pottery<\/strong> was presented to <strong>the Corrib Shopping Centre and Big O Taxis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Molt\u00f3ir\u00ed also bestowed a <strong>University<\/strong> <strong>Scholarship<\/strong> sponsored by <strong>Acadamh na hOllscola\u00edochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na h\u00c9ireann, Gaillimh<\/strong> on a business that is making a special effort to promote and use the Irish language with their customers. <strong>Colm\u2019s Life Pharmacy <\/strong>was presented with a two year scholarship on the language acquisition course, \u2018An Diopl\u00f3ma sa Ghaeilge\u2019, a university qualification from NUI Galway.<\/p>\n<p>The Gradam category winners all received a business package to the value of \u20ac2,000 from their respective category sponsor as well as a <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gaillimhlegaei.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LydonImages_82-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4950\" \/>replica of Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh sponsored by <strong>\u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Connacht Hotel will receive an advertising package to the value of \u20ac2,000 from the main media sponsor of the Gradam, the <strong>Galway Advertiser<\/strong>. \u00a0They will also receive a publicity package with <strong>TG4<\/strong>, a digital marketing package sponsored by <strong>Lorg Media<\/strong> and one year\u2019s membership of <strong>Galway Chamber<\/strong> and <strong>Gaillimh le Gaeilge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They also receive Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh, a beautiful piece of sculpture specially designed by the famous artist P\u00e1draic Reaney symbolising the 14 Tribes of Galway, with one \u2018present day Tribe\u2019 representing the winner of Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh 2018 and other winners to come.<\/p>\n<p>Ba mhaith le Gaillimh le Gaeilge bu\u00edochas a ghabh\u00e1il leis na hainmnithe ar fad a ghlac p\u00e1irt i nGradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh i mbliana agus comhghairdeas a dh\u00e9anamh leis an Connacht Hotel!<\/p>\n<p>T\u00e1 \u00e1r mbu\u00edochas tuillte chomh maith ag na molt\u00f3ir\u00ed as ucht a gcuid ama don mholt\u00f3ireacht.
