Aire St\u00e1it sa Roinn Eala\u00edon, Oidhreachta, Gn\u00f3tha\u00ed R\u00e9igi\u00fanacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta, \u00a0Se\u00e1n Kyne TD made the annoucement at a special awards ceremony that took place in the Salthill Hotel on Monday the 15th of May 2017. The award ceremony marked the pinnacle of Gaillimh le Gaeilge\u2019s celebrations of 30 years in business and applauds the outstanding efforts of the business community promoting \u2018An Ghaeilge\u2019 in \u00a0Ireland\u2019s Bilingual City and European Capital of Culture 2020.<br \/>\n<span id=\"more-10990\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ionad na Faiche M\u00f3ire\/Eyre Square Centre was named as the winner of the \u2018Retail\u2019 Category sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Galway Bay FM<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>and went on to scoop<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0the overall award on the night.\u00a0The Eyre Square Centre has been involved with the Gradam for a number of years. The majority of signage throughout the Centre is bilingual, their adverts, website and Facebook all incorporate the Irish language as does each event held<span>\u00a0<\/span>in the Centre. In the past year, customers are greeted with a \u2018F\u00e1ilte\u2019 as well as new bilingual signage in the recently developed main entrance where you can also see the Irish version of their logo. \u00a0The Irish language can be heard on the PA system and is a feature of the children\u2019s play area -T\u00edr na n\u00d3g. They have sought to influence the tenants in the Centre which has resulted in well-known and local brands such as DIESEL, Maple Moose, Penney\u2019s and XL embrace the Irish language in their stores. It is now part of their policy to encourage new businesses locating in the Centre to use \u2018An Ghaeilge\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/weXHwlN7u7w\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The other category winners for Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh 2017 were:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>The Connacht Hotel<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>winner of the \u2018Tourism &amp; Hospitality\u2019 Category, sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>F\u00e1ilte Ireland<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lorg Media<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>winner of the \u2018Services Category\u2019, sponsored by<strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>Snap Galway<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Carey Building Contractors,<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>winner of the \u2018Other Companies\u2019 Category sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Acadamh na hOllscola\u00edochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na h\u00c9ireann Gaillimh.<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking about the judging process, An tOllamh Ciar\u00e1n \u00d3 h\u00d3gartaigh, Cathaoirleach an Phain\u00e9al Molt\u00f3ireachta said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIs \u00e9 an rud is m\u00f3 ar thug muid suntas d\u00f3 n\u00e1 an chinnteacht go bhfuil todhcha\u00ed maith i nd\u00e1n don Ghaeilge, go bhfuil s\u00ed \u00e1 h\u00fas\u00e1id i ngn\u00f3lachta\u00ed \u00fara fuinni\u00fala agus go mbeidh s\u00ed ina dl\u00fathchuid d\u00e1 strait\u00e9is amach anseo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What stood out the most for us was the reassurance that \u201cIrish has a future\u201d. These businesses have adopted a creative and dynamic approach to the language and is very much part of their strategy going forward. It is not necessarily an after-thought.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to \u2018reach\u2019, \u2018influence\u2019 was another word that came to mind throughout the process. Owners\/Senior Managers, particularly\u00a0didn\u2019t see the use of the language confined to their own business but felt a sense of responsibility to promote and use the language outside of their companies. I\u2019m well aware of the work of Gaillimh le Gaeilge and have been to many of your events in the past. \u00a0It\u2019s a great honour to be here today as Aire St\u00e1it na Gaeltachta, in my own constituency, chun Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh a bhronnadh.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He went on to announce Gaillimh le Gaeilge as the \u2018Ceanneagra\u00edocht\u2019 to prepare and implement \u00a0a language plan for Galway city under the Language Planning Process. This will be undertaken in collaboration with stakeholders such as Galway City Council. He went on to say that the language plan for the city is certain to help and strengthen the Irish language and\u00a0 will also help to consolidate Galway\u2019s cultural, Irish brand for the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Gradam winners all received a business package to the value of \u20ac2,000 from their respective category sponsor as well as a replica of Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>\u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Ionad na Faiche M\u00f3ire\/ Eyre Square Centre will receive an advertising package to the value of \u20ac2,000 from the main media sponsor of the Gradam, the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Galway Advertiser<\/strong>. \u00a0They will also receive a publicity package with<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>TG4<\/strong>, a series of four Web Strategy workshops sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>AR\u00d3 Internet Business Development<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>and one year\u2019s membership of<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Galway Chamber<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>agus<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Gaillimh le Gaeilge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They also receive Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh, a beautiful piece of sculpture specially designed by the famous artist P\u00e1draic Reaney symbolising the 14 Tribes of Galway, with one \u2018present day Tribe\u2019 representing the winner of Gradam Sheosaimh U\u00ed \u00d3gartaigh 2017 and other winners to come.<\/p>\n<p>Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge, Bernadette Mullarkey, congratulated all of the winners and commended their bilingual work. \u00a0She went on to say:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBh\u00ed caighde\u00e1n ainmni\u00fach\u00e1in an Ghradaim an-ard agus \u00f3 thaobh s\u2019againne de, sin sc\u00e9al an-mhaith i gc\u00f3na\u00ed, n\u00ed amh\u00e1in do ch\u00e1il an Ghradaim ach do staid agus r\u00f3l na Gaeilge i bhforbairt thodhcha\u00ed na Gaillimhe. Galway businesses and organisations, across a wide range of sectors, see how the Irish language can work for them, ensuring the success of the Gradam and our bilingual city. Our continued use of the Irish language is also of particularly importance with the European Capital of Culture 2020 on the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Past President of the Galway Chamber, Conor O\u2019Dowd also spoke at the event and said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis integration of the Irish language is enormously important to our cultural uniqueness and the distinct atmosphere of Galway city which in turn makes us the premier location for\u00a0 international investment as well as the top destination for high yield, all year round tourism.\u00a0 This can contribute to Galway city creating a sustainable competitive advantage in attracting investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A reflection of the high standard of entries this year is<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Bronnadh Speisialta na Molt\u00f3ir\u00ed<\/strong>, a special award designed to acknowledge a business who has entered the Gradam for the first time and has achieved a very high standard which could not go unrecognised. \u00a0This award, sponsored by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Judy Greene Pottery<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>was presented to<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Mary\u2019s Fish, Gaillimh<\/strong>.
