Festival Co-Ordinator – Tonnta 26

Gaillimh le Gaeilge works in association with Galway City Council, Galway Chamber and other groups to develop and strengthen Galway’s official Bilingual Status.

Our organisation is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual or a festival/coordinator /event management organisation/company to help organise and coordinate Tonnta – a dynamic bilingual festival in Gaillimh | Galway, celebrating the Irish language and culture during St Brigid’s Bank Holiday Weekend in February 2026 and in February 2027.

 

CONTRACT PERIOD:

In year 1, the successful candidate will work (on a contract) from the 1st of September 2025 to the 6th of February 2026.  There may be some preliminary meetings before the 1st of September.

In addition, the successful candidate will continue to aid in the festival wrap-up during part of February.

 

In year 2, the successful candidate will work (on a contract) from the 1st of September 2026 to the 8th of February 2027. There may be some preliminary meetings before the 1st of September.

Duties and Responsibilities: As a successful candidate, you will report to CEO Gaillimh le Gaeilge and work collaboratively with the ‘Grúpa Oibre Tonnta. In addition to coordinating schedules, artists, locations, and other operational details, the successful candidate will oversee all operations at the festival.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the festival and:

  • Oversee, direct, and manage the work plan within budget to ensure smooth delivery of a successful and on-schedule Festival.
  • Manage logistics, from ticketing and security to parking and crowd control, to create a safe and enjoyable environment for the festival.
  • Utilize various promotion channels to promote the festival and encourage community engagement.
  • Assist in creating and distributing guest artist schedules.
  • Organise and schedule spaces/venues for the Tonnta festival.
  • Organise transportation and accommodation needs for Festival artists and guest artists.
  • Assist with administrative tasks throughout the festival, including the gathering of data.
  • Create and maintain detailed operations sheets and records for the festival.
  • Collate and filing of Health & Safety documentation and other required paperwork relating to subcontractors and the festival. (for example: Licensing and Planning issues)
  • Communicate confidently with colleagues, artists, and suppliers at all levels.
  • Create a post-event report.

     

     

    PERSON SPECIFICATION – ESSENTIAL 

    • Self-motivated professional with at least 5 years of experience and knowledge in deliveringmedium-large scale events.
    • An understanding of the Irish language and arts/culture is essential.
    • The Festival Coordinator must have a positive energy, be creative and flexible.
    • You must have a can-do attitude and a willingness to work cooperatively with others as well as independently.
    • A track record of creating detailed production schedules and managing them, as well as maintaining a broad focus on priorities and objectives.
    • Excellent project planning and time management skills.
    • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack, and web platforms such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Squarespace, Trello, Asana, Eventbrite, Canva, and social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
    • Experience managing people.
    • Ability to quickly assimilate and retain new information and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
    • Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task.
    • Physical stamina to work during the festival and abilities to set boundaries and delegate tasks as needed.

     

    The Festival Coordinator must have a car, valid driver’s license, and personal technology (smartphone with texting plan and laptop). In addition, as the position works with students/young people, the successful candidate will submit to and pass a background check.
