Gaillimh le Gaeilge announces highest number of new entries for Gradam 2020

27  Businesses and organisations, representing a wide range of sectors have put their names forward for Galway’s bilingual business awards – Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2020. The Gradam is organised by Gaillimh le Gaeilge in association with the Galway Advertiser and TG4 and with support from the Galway Chamber.  19 of the 27 entries are new for 2020 while 8 are returning.

Companies competing to become the New Tribe of Galway include a bridal boutique, Ireland’s largest medieval parish church, a non-stop Galway Dublin coach service, an international arts festival for children as well as well-known Galway hotels and bars, all in the running to be named as the New Tribe of Galway!

Speaking about Gradam 2020, Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge Bernadette Mullarkey said:

“We are delighted with the entries to this year’s Gradam, both the record number and the diversity involved. Comhghairdeas leo go léir as a dtiomantas chun Gaillimh a choinneáil dátheangach agus difriúil. We welcome the new businesses and the more established names to the Gradam this year and we commend them on their use of Irish as an important element in their business plans. In light of recent events,we have decided to move the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh schedule to the Autumn.  We feel that this is the most appropriate and effective course of action to support and maximise the benefits of the Gradam for  all of  the businesses and organisations involved in these extraordinary circumstances.”

The office of Gaillimh le Gaeilge is working remotely and the team is available online, providing practical supports and an ongoing translation services to the 27 nominees.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge would like to say a ‘míle buíochas’ to the impressive line-up of sponsors, whose contribution is invaluable to the success of the Gradam and also to extend a ‘céad míle fáilte’ to our new sponsor Video Sherpa! The winner of the Gradam ‘Services ‘ Category, will receive  a one year subscription to Video Sherpa to the value of €2,000, which includes; Video creation software with unlimited user licences; 1 x Media Kit (DJI Osmo stabiliser & microphone set);  Create up to 60 videos; Video Hosting; Team training session and Ongoing customer support.

The main media sponsor is the Galway Advertiser; the company has proudly supported the Gradam since its inception in 2002.  TG4 joined the Gradam in 2016, and both media organisations are providing an excellent advertising package for the overall winner.

The category sponsors for Gradam 2020 are as follows: Galway Bay FM, Fáilte Ireland, Video Sherpa and Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh.

Údarás na Gaeltachta are sponsoring the replicas of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, specially designed by the renowned artist Pádraic Reaney.  The Galway Chamber will also provide sponsorship to the overall winner.  Míle buíochas leo go léir!

All of the Gradam nominees will receive substantial publicity in the Irish and English language media throughout the Gradam campaign and the overall winner will recieve the prestigious title as the 15th Tribe of Galway for the year ahead. Go n-éirí go geal leo ar fad.
